I like telling stories. I've been doing it for a long time, whether it meant trouble or not. Seriously, what kind of Southerner doesn't know how to embellish? But what do you do when you don't get the opportunities you are looking for in your art- you work on other skills, like timing, learning the editing process, sound, production. There was a day when most directors were old prop managers, lighting techs and camera operators. There is an idea floating around that if you have broad experience you are not good at anything. I can tell you that you can not become an expert at anything without experience. Experience in production is experience that builds on itself, and you can learn so much from every project and the people you meet through work, which is why I stay in this business. How has editing for television helped my story telling? I can't even explain it, I'm worlds away from where I started.
